Blog 6 : Final Poster

Image
This is my final project map. I was pleased with the way that it came out. Overall I had many issues with my data but I felt as though this poster represents the data and information I collected well. The data showed that while there is not a direct correlation on the data it is visually seen that canopy cover and air quality have a relationship. This being that areas with more canopy cover have a lower AQI. Throughout this year of GIS I have learned many valuable GIS techniques as well as learned how to budget time in order to finish a project within a time period.

I decided to use maps that captured New York with canopy cover and air quality. This will be the data that I will include on my final poster.

I decided to georeference the canopy data to the counties AQI data because I was unable to project this information.

Today I put the AQI data within ArcGis. I decided to use the coloring scale from green to red to show areas of high AQI as red and vice versa.

Blog post 2: Update

Today I decided to change my project from the entirety of the United States to just New York State. I also decided to compare my project from last semester to this semesters project. I have downloaded the data from NLCD and put it into ArcGIS.

Research Proposal

Introduction Throughout our earth deforestation and air quality are both very hot topic issues. We know that trees help air quality by sequestering carbon but my study will see if there is a direct connection to the amount of canopy cover in an area to the air quality in that specific area. I will be using data from NLCD, specifically the canopy cover data for tree abundance. For air quality I will be using EPAair quality data. Objectives: -See if there is a direct correlation between trees within a specific area and air quality in that specific area. - Further information about how much forest in the United States is actually there still. Methodology - I will use GIS to display both the forest cover and air quality in two separate maps. - I will use spatial analysis to see if there is a correlation between the two. Deliverables -Three maps with one showing canopy cover, one showing air quality and the third a spatial analysis map, all of which will be of the United States....
